the sermon on the mount
For general study and as part of theeffect's ministry school, we will be studying the Sermon on the Mount--Matthew 5, 6, and 7-- from a Hebrew/Aramaic perspective.

Like a set of nesting dolls that sit inside each other, the New Testament contains the four Gospels, which contain the Gospel of Matthew--the most Hebrew of the gospels, which contains the Sermon on the Mount, which contains the Lord's Prayer. The teachings of Jesus are contained in each of these, but in more and more concentrated form. The entire kernel of Jesus' teaching is present in the Sermon, and if we can understand these three chapters in Matthew, we can peer into the heart of Jesus' relationship with Father. And yet, the Sermon has confounded the greatest scholars of the church for two thousand years, because they have approached it from a typically Western point of view. By looking through Hebrew eyes, we can move back into a context in which apparent difficulties disappear.

soak worship gathering
Join us for an evening of musical worship and prayer and nothin' but.

theeffect band leads worship for two hours with prayer, food, and fellowship going on all around. With people coming in very comfortable clothes and bringing beach chairs, with thick rugs and pillows strewn about, the atmosphere is as warm as the candlelight and coffee. It's a great time to relax and really soak in the presence of God.

Stay with us after our Sunday gathering for a great pancake breakfast in our courtyard. Bring a favorite dish to share, and we'll provide the pancakes and all the fixings.

al-anon meeting
We are also excited to announce a new open Al-Anon group meeting on Wednesday evenings from 6PM to 7PM. We have been wanting to offer Al-Anon meetings as part of our recovery programming for some time now, but didn't have all the pieces in place. So this is the addition of that missing piece and a necessary part of full recovery for families and anyone trying to love an alcoholic or addict.
